In a devastating accident on the Mumbai-Delhi Expressway near Sohna, two students tragically lost their lives, and three others were critically injured when a speeding vehicle veered out of control, colliding with multiple vehicles on Monday morning, authorities reported.
Accident Details
The incident occurred around 9:15 am as three students from KR Mangalam University in Sohna were traveling to their college from Nathupur in DLF Phase-III, Gurugram, in a Tata Altroz. Police investigations revealed that the Altroz sharply veered off course, climbing onto the divider before striking a metal barrier and light pole. The vehicle then slammed into a concrete pillar of the elevated expressway section, which caused it to ricochet into the opposite lane. From there, it collided with a Honda City and a motorcycle.
Inspector Manoj Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bhondsi Police Station, identified the deceased as 19-year-old Daksh from Ghitorni, Delhi, and his friend Akshant from Nathupur. Another student, 20-year-old Dhruv, remains in critical condition, receiving treatment at the Sector-10 civil hospital. Among the other injured were one occupant of the Honda City and the motorcycle rider.
Cause of the Accident
Preliminary investigations suggest that a tire burst may have led to the Altroz swerving sharply off course, resulting in the tragic chain of events. The impact of the collision caused a temporary traffic disruption on the expressway for about half an hour, according to police. The exact cause and the identity of the driver are still under investigation as officials await a formal complaint.
Due to the severity of the crash, responders had to dismantle the Altroz’s chassis using two cranes to retrieve the bodies.
