New Electric Vehicles Under ₹20 Lakhs in India,Hyundai is gearing up for a significant expansion in the Indian electric vehicle market, planning to launch four new EV models priced below ₹20 lakhs. Following the company’s impressive ₹27,870 crore IPO, these vehicles will play a crucial role in enhancing Hyundai’s growth trajectory in the EV segment.
Upcoming Models: Creta EV and More
The first model to debut will be the highly anticipated Hyundai Creta EV. Competing in the compact SUV category, this electric variant will face off against established players such as the Tata Curvv EV and MG ZS EV, as well as new entries like the BYD Atto 3 and the upcoming Maruti eVX.
Design and Features of the Hyundai Creta EV
Recent spy photos suggest that the Creta EV will closely resemble its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, retaining similar aesthetics and a familiar interior layout. This strategy will allow Hyundai to capitalize on the Creta’s strong brand recognition, ensuring a seamless transition for existing fans of the model.
By sharing components and design elements with the ICE Creta, Hyundai aims to keep development and production costs in check. The starting price for the Creta EV is expected to fall between ₹15-18 lakhs, making it competitively priced against rivals like the Curvv EV (starting at ₹17.49 lakhs) and the MG ZS EV (priced from ₹18.98 lakhs).
Performance Expectations
The Creta EV will feature a 45-kWh battery pack, promising a certified range of approximately 450 km, with real-world performance expected to hover around 350 km. Equipped with advanced regenerative braking technology, this electric SUV will deliver 138 hp and 255 Nm of torque, ensuring a reliable and efficient driving experience.
Introducing the Inster EV
Following the launch of the Creta EV, Hyundai will unveil the Inster EV (codenamed HE1i), based on the internationally available model. This vehicle will directly compete with the popular Tata Punch EV, which recently saw its starting price drop to ₹9.99 lakhs from ₹10.99 lakhs, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers.
The Inster EV is built on Hyundai’s innovative E-GMP (K) platform and is expected to hit the showrooms in the second half of 2026, with competitive pricing anticipated.
Future EVs: Venue and Grand i10
In addition to the Creta and Inster EVs, Hyundai is exploring electric versions of the Venue and Grand i10 Nios. The Venue EV will be based on the next-generation ICE model, set to launch globally next year, with the electric variant arriving subsequently. This model aims to rival the bestselling Nexon EV, priced from ₹12.5 lakhs, as well as the Mahindra XUV300 EV.
Meanwhile, the Grand i10 Nios EV will target the Tata Tiago EV, which starts at ₹7.99 lakhs, appealing to a similar customer base.
Manufacturing and Export Plans
Hyundai is not only focused on the domestic market but also has ambitious plans for exports. India is being developed as a key manufacturing hub for mass-market EVs, with initial production targets set at 26,000 units for the Creta EV and 65,000 units for the Inster EV. A significant portion of this production will cater to international markets, bolstered by the new manufacturing facility in Talegaon, near Pune.
